We are loving ART!

 

Look at the bulletin board that is displayed in the TK/K room! The board features your child's self-portrait as seen through a mirror study. As the medium, the kinders used chalk, while the TK used cut paper. They are very proud of this "Seeing Myself" project. This week we concentrate on 'LINE.' Look for more projects to come home!

In collaboration with the current Unit of Study in the 1/2 class, we continue making Passports and country postcards. Look for them to be displayed at the first Downtown Hickory Art Crawl on September 16. The children will be sending you invitations!

We are studying line in various works of famous art. Our sketch books are starting to fill-up! Linking the study of choices and our body, the students are currently working on a project that includes drawing, hands-on craft and gooey, sticky stuff. We will finish this 'mystery' project this week and send it home!

Our objective this first 5 weeks is to delve into the creative process of known artists AND ourselves. What makes us want to create? How do we decide what to use? What to do? How do we 'get' there?

We will be creating three different projects from very different starting points. Our first assignment was sketching and a still life. It has turned out some very interesting works. Our study this week will be a grid drawing. Let's see how we work best.
