Music For the week of: Sept. 2 - 6, 2010 Things you need to know We are enjoying making music and singing together! Our middle school handchimes have begun rehearsing and will be performing at Grandparents' Day. Our magnificent chorus of THIRTY voices is working diligently on creating beautiful vocal sounds for your enjoyment. On Grandparents' Day families will be treated to a musical presentation of Aesop's fables by our TK - 2nd graders. The 3rd - 6th graders will be showcased during the winter holiday production and the middle school will shine in May at the end of the year show. Program of Inquiry Music is a cocurriculur component of the IB program which means the lessons taught in music class are correlated as directly as possible, whenever appropriate, to the current classroom unit of inquiry. Here's a tiny synopsis of how music and the units of inquiry are currently related. These units will change approximately every six weeks: TK/K "One of the Kind" Songs and activities on being unique; comparison of songs and games of children from many countries and their similarities 1/2 "World Citizenship" Creating an IB profile rap; songs and dances from around the world 3/4 "Human Body" Songs about the body; "Body Jive"; "Dem Bones" 5/6 "Different Strokes" Learning about using music to help us learn and memorize facts; "ABC" song, etc.; small groups will create a song to help us learn facts Central Idea Varies from grade to grade (see above)
